LTTLEHAMPTON RIFLE AND ARTILLERY VOLUNTEER CORPS. – Suggestions are being offered that the towns of Arundel and Littlehampton together might furnish a goodly number of candidates for these corps, and that in the event of a Sussex detachment being so formed, the meeting ground for exercise might be Leominster, as it is frequently was for the Sussex Yeomanry Cavalry Corps. The shoal and consequently still water on this coast, with nothing of cliff impediment to a landing, would offer great temptation in the event of hostilities between this country and France. The late Duke of Wellington, when on a visit to Arundel Castle, surveyed the coast from the Old Battery, and it is said, advised the situation for the fort since built.
